The 10th annual edition of the IAPP Europe Data Protection Conference in Brussels featured a session with Eliëtte Vaal and Vonne Laan of The Data Lawyers, on the One-Stop-Shop Mechanism (OSS) under the GDPR. The application of the OSS in practice has been met with some resistance and its scope seems unclear. This session aimed to bring more conceptual clarity and practical guidance.

The privacy rules on transfers of personal data have become stricter after the Schrems II ruling and the subsequent Recommendations by the European Data Protection Board (EDPB). Implementing these stricter rules in practice has turned out to be a complicated process for many organisations. However, as Kimberly Friesen explains in a recent blog for Data & Privacyweb, it seems unwise to not take any action. Several European supervisory authorities have already imposed fines for breaching these rules. (Dutch only)
Mariska Kool was invited to speak during the Cloud Security Congres on 11 October. This daylong event organized by AG Connect focused on the main aspects as well as important developments within the field of cloud security. (Event was held in Dutch.)

The Dutch chapter of the IAPP KnowledgeNet held a lively panel discussion on 27 September last on profiling and automated decision-making (in Dutch). Vonne Laan hosted the event and moderated the discussion between panel members.
On 20 September 2021, Kimberly Friesen provided the introductory lecture on privacy law for the students of the University of Applied Sciences Windesheim.
For the lecture series Next Step Privacy Compliance, organized by the IIR (Institute for International Research), Vonne Laan gave a presentation on 14 September 2021 on Algorithms, AI and Privacy Law.
