Biography
Joep advises a broad range of national and international clients in the field of data and technology, with a particular focus on privacy, IT, and advertising. He provides strategic advice, assists clients in IT/IP/advertising-related contract negotiations, and delivers in-house training sessions, including IAPP CIPP/E certification training. Joep also litigates in IT and privacy disputes, especially those relating to data subject rights. He is proactive and practical, which is reflected in his work.
Background
Joep obtained his Master’s degree in Information Law at the Institute for Information Law (IViR) of the University of Amsterdam. During his Master’s, he developed an interest in privacy and wrote his thesis on the privacy positions of different actors under the GDPR. During this time, he also spent a semester abroad at Fudan University in Shanghai, where he studied international law and Chinese.
Joep joined The Data Lawyers as paralegal in October 2020 and is currently an associate. He was admitted as attorney to the Dutch bar in August 2021.

Joepis a member of the Netherlands Association for Young Privacy Lawyers (JongePrivacy Advocaten Nederland; JPAN), the Netherlands Association for Information Technology and Law (NVvIR), and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
