The Privacy Collective has initiated a collective action against US ad-tech company AppLovin and Adjust. The case concerns tracking technology embedded in widely used apps and games, which allegedly collects and combines data relating to millions of Dutch users, including children. In the EenVandaag report, Vonne Laan explains that users may be tracked before they have given consent and that consent obtained through apps is often not legally valid because users are not properly informed. The resulting profiles can reveal sensitive interests and vulnerabilities and may be used for highly targeted advertising. The claim seeks an end to these practices as well as compensation for affected users.
