Biography

Nina assists commercial entities as well as healthcare institutions with legal questions relating to IT, data, privacy, AI, IP and commercial contracting. She always collaborates with the client focusing on possibilities, combining her strong legal expertise with a pragmatic approach.

Her practice includes drafting and negotiating IT/privacy-related agreements and commercial contracts. She advises on complex privacy-related matters, such as international data transfers, the use of health data or customer data, access rights, compliance projects, DPIAs, data breaches, cookies, unlawful publications and portrait rights. Nina also advises on the use of AI and related liability and assists in M&A projects involving data/privacy/IT/technology. If necessary, she litigates in related matters.

Nina is recognized for her particular knowledge of the healthcare sector, gained by working in two hospitals for about five years. This background gives her a practical understanding of the challenges organisations face when handling sensitive personal data, including health data, and implementing new technologies in a highly regulated environment. From a personal interest, she is also active in the creative industry when it comes to advising on the use of data, images, AI and related intellectual property rights.

Nina regularly provides legal workshops (online and offline, also tailor-made) with a practical approach to the legal challenges companies and institutions commonly face.

‍Background

Before joining The Data Lawyers, Nina worked as a lawyer at other recognizable law firms (since 2012). She gained in-house experience by working in Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam (Erasmus MC, Technology Transfer Office) and Maasstad Ziekenhuis for five years. Nina obtained a Bachelor’s degree at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the VU Amsterdam (cum laude), with a specialization in Intellectual Property, IT and Media. She also finished the post-academic degree on contract law at the Grotius Academy (Nationaal en internationaal contracteren).

Nina has a strong network in the healthcare sector and regularly attends healthcare-related events (also as a speaker). She is also a board member of STEG (Stichting Entertainment Group), which organizes lectures on current legal topics and networking events for peers and clients in the media and entertainment industry. Nina is a member of various international and national associations, such as the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the Dutch Association of Privacy Lawyers (VPR) and the Dutch Association for Information Technology and Law (NVviR).
